If you’re new to the fantastical world of LBP 3, we know there’s so much to see, do and build – it can be hard to know where to start. So we caught up with LBP Community Manager, Steven Isbell for some expert hints, tips and pointers…

So what kind of sack-shenanigans can new players look forward to in LittleBigPlanet™ 3?

The big news this month* to coincide with the launch of LittleBigPlanet 3 on PlayStation Plus is that the community has now published over 10 million levels since the original LittleBigPlanet launched in 2008, and all of these are available to play in LBP 3 right now.

Any player looking to check out some of our favourite levels over the years should head straight to the Team Picks area or the special Greatest Hits community category that we launched specially this month to showcase these levels to everyone.

On top of our community creations though, you still have the rest of the base LittleBigPlanet 3 game to explore, including our own Adventure campaign. If you want to craft your own levels and creations, just pop over to Create to begin building your very first hand-made creation.

10 million? That’s a lot of levels! What are some of the most creative (or plain weirdest) ones you’ve come across?

Oh wow… I’ve played thousands of community levels over the years, so it’s very difficult to pick some firm favourites. I couldn’t count how many times that I’ve played a level in LittleBigPlanet, or been sent a video/screenshot and had to do a double-take to check that I was still looking at LBP. Some of them have been that good!

I’m also very fond of levels where a creator has taken three or four materials from our own Adventure and somehow managed to mix them together to create an entirely new “theme” of level that hasn’t been seen in any of the content that we created for the game ourselves.

There’s been a tonne of cool costumes for Sackboy® and co. released too. Do you have any personal favourites?

Anyone that follows me on Twitter will probably notice rather quickly that I’m a fan of Doctor Who, so it was an absolute dream of mine to be able to bring the Doctor Who costumes to LittleBigPlanet 3 during Christmas 2015. And it was great to be able to cover multiple Doctors, companions and villains from across the years of Doctor Who.

I’m also a big fan of Final Fantasy VII, so my own Sackboy always carries the Buster Sword that came with the Cloud Costume in the Final Fantasy VII Costume Pack. That was probably the very first costume that I saw and thought, “I must have this!”

How about any franchises you’d like to see LittleBigPlanet-ised in the future? Are there some upcoming packs or level kits we can look forward to soon?

We’re always working to bring new and popular characters to LittleBigPlanet 3 and whilst I don’t want to give too much away just yet, our line-up for the next few months is looking very exciting – with a range of Costume Packs based on community requests, some upcoming video games and some other family favourites. We’re still working on them though, so we will share more news on each of these closer to their release.

We also partnered with our good friends at Guerrilla Games recently to reveal a Sackgirl Keyring of Aloy from Horizon Zero Dawn, and long-time fans of LittleBigPlanet will know that we don’t have a costume for Aloy in LittleBigPlanet 3… yet… ?

Awesome! We’ll be sure to watch this space! So, OddSock, Toggle and Swoop all joined Sackboy for the first time ever in LBP 3. Do you have a favourite from the newcomers? (Don’t worry, we won’t tell them.)

It’s a difficult choice, but for the increased speed and acrobatic skills, I’d have to go with OddSock.

OddSock was also the first of the new characters that we fully fleshed out and developed, and is the one that I’ve spent the most time with. OddSock really helped set the standards for developing Toggle and Swoop’s characters too.

LBP has been a real fan-favourite franchise over the years. What do you think is the main reason for the continued success and community love of the series?

Without a doubt, it’s most definitely the LittleBigPlanet community! All we did is provide the platform and the tools to create with – it’s the community that’s taken these tools and turned LittleBigPlanet into what it is today!

And it’s not just the creators that hold a special place in our hearts. Casual players, content curators, video creators… everyone has their own way of interacting with the series and working together to build up their own little corners of the LittleBigPlanet community for others to enjoy; and it’s genuinely a joy to see this day-to-day with the LittleBigPlanet community.

So, if you could offer once piece of advice to our new players starting their first LBP building project, what would it be?

It’s funny, I’m rarely asked this and I’m no creator myself, but there are actually two pieces of advice that I would give to every player looking to work on their first (or next) LittleBigPlanet project.

1 – Build because you want to. Not because you’re seeking fame within the community.
There are a lot of like-minded creators all bidding for attention within the LittleBigPlanet community, and whilst our Recommendations and Level of the Day systems try their best to ensure that your friends (and a number of other players) get the chance to play your level, there’s no guarantee that your level will be the next big hit. So try not to set your aspirations too high and just enjoy the process of creating and sharing your creation with the rest of the community.

2 – Following on from the above – I’ve always believed that LittleBigPlanet’s actual motto should be “Play, Create, Share… PROMOTE!” You may have just finished building your latest masterpiece but your work shouldn’t end the moment that you hit that big “Publish” button.

Your next goal is to make sure the community takes notice of your creation! So get on to the LittleBigPlanet fansite forums and social media right away. Start sharing videos and screenshots of your creations with the rest of your community and they’ll soon take notice of your creation. If you need some help building or refining your level, this is also a great way to seek advice and feedback from experienced creators.

That’s some great advice, thank you! Finally, which member of the Sack Gang do you feel you have the most in common with? We’re all a bunch of OddSocks here at PlayStation.

It would be very difficult for me to say anybody other than Sackboy. He’s the perfect blank canvas for you to inject your own personality and style into, which is exactly what I’ve done with mine. I dressed him up in the same manner of clothing that I would wear in real-life.
(Although sadly I do not own a real Buster Sword that I walk around with daily. I took some artistic liberty there because my Sackboy can!)

It always brings a smile to my face whenever I see a large gathering of Sackboys and Sackgirls that each have their own designs that came straight from the player that they belong to. And it’s always great to see players mixing costume pieces together to design their own unique look.

For the first time ever, Sackboy® is not alone in his quest to rid the world of a naughty nuisance. Bunkum’s ancient heroes, once thought to exist only in myth and fairy tale, have pledged their talents to help Sackboy® save their world.

swoop_no_logoSwoop is like a gift from the heavens.

By wafting along the invisible thought patterns of the Imagisphere, Swoop can reach breathtaking heights, perform sharp turns and nail-biting dives.

With her talons of steel (okay… they are actually pipe cleaners, but don’t tell anyone) Swoop can grab many types of material and lift them up, up and away to wherever you want.

After the first defeat of the Titans, Swoop retired to the lagoons of Bunkum – spending her days hovering amongst the clouds, perching, pecking and doing all sorts of birdie type things.

But in Bunkum’s hour of need, when Sackboy comes calling, Swoop joins her sack-chums in an adventure so big it had to be little. That Newton and his evil scheming has truly ruffled Swoop’s feathers.

Swoop is a versatile birdie (or flying thingamajig) and can adorn many different guises.

Why not play through the adventure dressed as a dragon, a ship’s captain or a stunt bird?

You can even mix and match costumes to create your own individual look. Swoop can be a he, a she or an it, if you prefer…

When it comes to Create mode, Swoop can become anything you ever imagined (or lots of things you never imagined).

Make her spit explosive gold balls at a demented parrot army, or why not give her electric powers and make her really tiny, then she can flit about like a flea, electrocuting anything she touches.

The possibilities are endless.

In the Imagisphere they have a saying: “faster than the speed of OddSock”.

And that’s because OddSock is the speediest thing in the whole Imagisphere.

Not only is OddSock swifter than a hare in trainers, she’s also an agile and athletic hero, bounding wide chasms, scaling walls and sliding down slippery slopes – all without dropping her stylish stride.

OddSock lives in the great swamp of Manglewood, its rolling green banks the perfect spot for a madcap run through the world of Bunkum.

Having saved the planet many years ago, OddSock has retreated to her pinball sanctuary beneath its putrid waters. But when Marlon Random arrives on the scene with a new hero asking for help, she joins Sackboy and sets off on her greatest adventure yet.

While OddSock is built for speed, there’s so much more you can do with her in Create mode. Why not give her wings so she can glide through cardboard canyons, or turn her tail into a laser-powered weapon that fires at hordes of chasing enemies?

And what does your OddSock look like? A galloping horse? A stomping elephant? Or maybe a rumbling tank straight from a Metal Gear Solid war zone. Costumes aren’t the end of it, either – plaster a few stickers over her for good measure, add a decoration or two, and before you know it, OddSock will be yours and yours alone.

toggleToggle is full of surprises – one minute he’s a hefty, tottering chappy and then at the touch of a button, he’s a nimble little scamp, darting this way and that, like a sprat in a puddle.

In Big form he can smash through stuff, weigh things down and sink like a (somewhat cuddly) anvil to the bottom of deep oceans.

Sadly Big Toggle is a bit out of shape – so if you want to move at speed you’ll need to change into Little Toggle.

He can also sneak between small gaps, skip across water and get blown skyward by gusts of wind. Toggle is the ultimate one man team…

Toggle spends his days in the caves beneath the Ziggurat, wallowing in its underwater lakes, contemplating a life of pure relaxation.

But when Sackboy turns up with the noble Papal Mache, Toggle must answer the call of duty and springs to planet Bunkum’s aid.

But Toggle’s story doesn’t end there – he is but putty in the hands of the Imagisphere’s greatest creators (that’s you).

Just take him into Create mode and then – voila! – Toggle becomes your blank canvas.

Grant him ghostly powers so that he can glide through walls; or make him spit flaming golf balls at legions of naughty Sackbots.

Why not change his size and make him HUGE, then he can stomp through great cities, stamping on cars and pushing over buildings. The possibilities are endless!

And when you’re finished, remember to dress Toggle up in the latest costumes, plaster him with stickers and add a few decorations for good measure – Big or Little you can really make Toggle your own.

sackboyIt’s been a while since the knitted knight of the Imagisphere has graced our screens. But fear not, Sackboy® has put his time to good use…

Our little burlap chap has been in training, preparing for his leading role in a brand new handcrafted LittleBigPlanet™ adventure.

This time he’s faster, more agile and (most importantly) cuddlier than ever. Not only can he bound through levels like it’s nobody’s business, but his PlayStation®4 debut is a real visual treat.

Through the magic of High Definition and crystal clear imagination he’s the talk of the town, with every little stitch and piece of fluff visible on the big screen.

With an all-new adventure, new challenges and new friends, it’s only right that Sackboy has some new power-ups to play with, too.

These include the Pumpinator, Hook Hat, Blink Ball and Dash Boots.

We don’t want to give too much away just yet, but every one of these tools brings fresh ways to play and interact with the world around you.

And for the first time ever, Sackboy® can now carry these around with him in his very own Sack Pocket. This means that as you unlock new toys, you can travel back and forth through the world, dipping into your Sack Pocket and experimenting with each of them to reveal even more content and secret goodies.

Craftworld is a planet brimming with bountiful creativity. One day this creativity was so plentiful that the planet’s very seams peeled open and gave birth to a new world − Bunkum.

Like all places in the Imagisphere, this world of wonder and eccentricity is based on creativity and sharing.

A colourful ribbon of creativity encircles the planet, pumped out by Bunkum’s Creative Heart, a magical vessel that floats at the epicentre of the globe. Everyone on Bunkum shares this creativity equally, its residents living in utopian bliss.

But when an evil plan is hatched to release three ancient Titans to suck up all of that precious creativity, only Sackboy® can save the day, but he cannot do it alone…

There are loads of trophies to earn in LittleBigPlanet™ 3; so here’s a few to keep your eyes out for:

Bronze BRONZE: Slippery Slope − Build your own slide when playing around in the My Moon creation area.
