Occasionally characters may find themselves in physical danger. In an action sequence, press the buttons on your DUALSHOCK®4 Wireless Controller that match the on-screen prompts before it’s too late.

If an image of the DUALSHOCK®4 Wireless Controller Light Bar appears, attempt to hold as still as you can.

Until Dawn can also be played using motion controls, which can be selected via the Settings Menu (accessed by pressing the Options button during gameplay). When playing using motion controls, simply move your DUALSHOCK®4 Wireless Controller to match the on-screen prompts. To make choices, first aim the controller at the dialogue prompt then press the S button to confirm.

SAVING THE GAME:

Until Dawn saves your progress with every decision and interaction you make; meaning your choices are permanent and there really is no going back. It also means you’re free to quit out and take a break whenever you like, knowing your progress (good or otherwise) is safe.

butterfly-effect

A tiny butterfly flapping its wings today may lead to a devastating hurricane weeks from now.

Every decision you make in Until Dawn will have consequences, some obvious, some unexpected. Even the smallest decision can dramatically affect future events.

Some choices must be made swiftly. Select the option you want before the white circle around your choice disappears, or risk unforeseen outcomes.

Often you will be presented with a choice with no clear outcome. You’ll just have to trust your own instincts.

And remember – sometimes the wisest thing is to do nothing at all…

Explore

It might seem counterintuitive to go poking around Until Dawn’s creepier locales, but doing so increases your chances of finding collectibles and clues. These include “Totems” – wooden carvings which when picked up (by pressing the R button) offer a brief glimpse into things to come. Pay attention to what these premonitions show you, and they could be all the heads-up you need to save a life later on.

Be sure to search for clues scattered around the areas you find yourself in, as some of these will help solve the mystery at hand, and others will elaborate on the dark history of the mountain itself. You should also listen out for possible clue locations in dialogue, as you never know what your fellow survivors might let slip…

Check Your Relationship Status

(No, we’re not talking about your social media profile here.)

At any time you can jump into your pause menu and see a visualisation of your character’s personality traits and relationships with other survivors. These stats will change over the course of the story, but can offer a valuable insight into who to trust, who not to trust and how best to diffuse any “tense” situations…

Stay Alert

The cinematic nature of Until Dawn’s gameplay means you should always be ready at the controls. The blurred line between cutscene and gameplay here can fool you into thinking you can relax when you aren’t exploring, so keep your hands on the controller and expect the unexpected…

There are a total of 19 trophies available in Until Dawn including one Platinum trophy.

Most are unlocked by keeping your characters alive throughout the story (easier said than done) and exploring the world, collecting Totems (see Survival Hints) and clues as you go. There are a few exceptions though – most of which involve making especially difficult choices at certain points in the adventure.

Below, we’ve listed some tips on how to add three easy (but totally missable) Bronze, Silver and Gold trophies to your collection. Note these descriptions do include minor SPOILERS.

Fatal GrudgeBronze

Towards the end of Episode 6, one of your characters must make a particularly disturbing choice – between sacrificing themselves or another member of the group. Picking the latter is all it takes to pop this trophy, but be warned – like many of Until Dawn’s Bronze trophies, earning it may prevent you from unlocking certain other trophies in that same play through.

Scream Too!Silver

The world of Until Dawn is filled with nasty traps, and during Episode 5 one of your intrepid heroes can fall into one after being lured by an eerie “waving hand”. Allow them to get caught and choose the most brutal way out to unlock this Silver trophy. It might make gripping a controller a little harder, mind…

The Skilful Wolf ManGold

Here’s one for the animal lovers. Early on in Episode 5, one of your characters will get separated from the group and encounter a not-so-friendly furry creature.
Be kind to your toothy new friend, keep them safe by completing some hairy QTEs and barricade a certain door (when prompted later) in Episode 9 to bag this Gold trophy.

camera-captures

If you enable the PlayStation®Camera in the Settings menu, the Camera Captures feature will appear in the Main menu.

Enabling use of the camera will let the game automatically take video of the player and playing environment at certain moments in the game. This video will be stored on your console, which you can view in the “Cheap Shots” section. If available, videos may also be shared on social media via the PS4™ share functionality.

Take-our-survey

Every time you’re presented with a choice, you can opt to see what percentage of players have chosen each option and perhaps use this to guide your decision.

Select Global Stats from the Settings menu and if your PlayStation®4 is connected to the Internet, you’ll see a percentage next to each choice.

Hidden Agenda – Out now

Using smartphones or tablets, up to six of you can join in to make tough decisions about how the story unfolds, but not all of you will be working towards the same goal…
